Sailing school

A.S.D.VELADAMARE organizes three different sailing courses which train the student in everything from the fundamentals of sailing to mastery of the boat during a cruise.

The courses are open only to members of the A.S.D.VELADAMARE, and enrollment is not included in the price of the course.

Beginner Sailing Course

Geared toward those who want to learn the fundamentals of the sport and who have had little or no previous experience.

Program:

• Sailing propulsion
• Terminology
• Fitting out
• Basic knots
• The boat
• Sails
• On-board Equipment
• Maneuvering

The course is organized in 8 lessons of theory and practice to be held on weekends.

Each lesson is 3 hours.

Course Costs:

300 euro per person, VAT included. 100 euro downpayment at time of enrollment and bilance due upon the first lesson.

Intermediate course

Geared toward those who have successfully completed the Beginner Course or who have had previous sailing experience.

Program:

• Effect of wind on the sails
• Adjusting the sails
• Holding your route and speed
• Docking maneuvers
• Anchoring maneuvers
• Basic meteorology
• Maneuvers for rescuing a man overboard
• Navigating reefs

The course is organized either in 8 lessons of theory and practice to be held on weekends.

Each lesson is 3 hours.

Course Costs:

For eight three-hour lessons: 300 euro per person, VAT included. 100 euro downpayment at time of enrollment and balance due upon the first lesson.

Skipper course

For those who have successfully completed the above courses and want to gain confidence in sailing the open seas or those recently certified skippers who want to gain a bit of experience before undertaking medium- or long-range cruises.

Program:

• Galley
• On-board organization
• Safety equipment
• Basic knowledge of on-board engines
• Use of radio-telephone
• Navigational charts
• Use of navigational equipment

The course is organized either in 8 lessons of theory and practice to be held on weekends or can be held during a cruise and/or weekend.

Each lesson is 3 hours.

Course Costs:

For eight three-hour lessons: 300 euro per person, VAT included. 100 euro downpayment at time of enrollment and balance due upon the first lesson.

The cost of the course during a cruie and/or weekend is to be agreed upn with the skipper

Suggested clothing for the sailing courses:

• Cap with visor
• Sunglasses
• Rainwear
• Boat shoes (with white rubber sole, to be used only on board)
• Sailing gloves
• Sweatshirt
• Shoes for going ashore
• Do NOT wear rings, chains, bracelets, necklaces etc.
